home sweet home

Well after a wonderful month working at Avalon, delivering boards and putting about two thousand miles on the blue bus, Karen and I are back in Newport/Covington/Cincinnati enjoying our life here. First stop was Dixie Chili, our local chili parlor. Next stop Dee Felice Cafe, where I’m enjoying the band and waiting for my baby to be off.

off time

Having a great trip. Up the coast to Mendo for an amazing gathering of the “wee folk”, the “good neighbors”, elves or whatever at the wedding of our good friends Chris and Rachel. Then on to gold rush country for my brother’s family, then on to Joshua Tree for my wife’s Mother’s and her sweet man.

Along the way we’ve been amazed and educated by good wine makers, enthralled by faerie, spanked by the Pacific, tested by a forty three year old vehicle and had a wonderful time. Back to Avalon this week and ready for Halloween (and our 18th wedding anniversary) in Kentucky. See you wherever.

Old world craftsmanship

It’s gratifying to see real craftsmen still at work in this country. My wife and I were treated to a tour of the only distillery owned cooperage in the US today, the Brown-Forman cooperage. The operations manager, Darren gave us a great look into a working cooperage. Most of the barrels are headed for Jack Daniels with the balance going to Woodford Reserve and Old Forester. Thanks to Darren at the plant and Michelle from Republic.

Oh Kentucky

Drove route 27 from Ohio to nearly Tennessee and ended up at a friends vintage trailer in Burnside, Kentucky. Well actually the original town is at the bottom of Lake Cumberland below us. It’s easy to forget how absolutely gorgeous this state is until you get off the freeway and travel a bit on the old “super” two lanes. Awesome.

Spending a couple days reading, napping and floating in the lake. Sweet!

MTV’s Real World

Well I never made the cover of Rolling Stone, but I may have a board or two show up on MTV’s Real World. Apparently they are filming a new season in San Diego, or La Jolla to be more precise. Producers approached Chris at Surfindian about borrowing a few boards for the shoot. I’m pleased that they chose a couple of mine for the lineup, including this one. After the shoot it will be for sale once again at Surfindian in beautiful Pacific Beach.

First person to spot it on the show gets absolutely nothing from anybody and should be ashamed to be watching such mind rotting crap.
